Council of Ministry

The Council of Ministries is comprised of the leaders of each church ministry. The Council of Ministries determines the nature and work of Christian education at Israel Baptist Church, coordinates an annual conference to train and nurture leaders, manages the church's calendar of events, and supports the activities of each ministry. We ensure that the work of each ministry and is properly aligned with the church's mission.

The Deacons Ministry of IBC is called to be a witness and servant for Jesus Christ’s mercy and to assist the Pastor in his Ministry. The Deacon Ministry shall assist the Pastor in the oversight of the spiritual welfare of the church body.

The Deaconess Ministry assists the Pastor in the spiritual matters of the church. They prepare the communion elements, prepare female candidates for baptism, comfort those in mourning or distress, visit the sick and administer services. They work together with all church ministries to foster Christian unity in the membership.  

Stewardship Training and Evangelism Ministry   STEM exists to provide a nurturing environment where members are not only aware of their responsibility of being good Stewards, but embody the nature of good stewards, thereby increasing member participation in all aspects of Israel Baptist Church.  STEM is headed by a STEM Coordinator and is organized into twelve disciple groups based on birthday months. Each group has a leader and co-leader consisting of a Deacon, Deaconess, and/or a Missionary.  It is through these nurturing groups that members learn about and practice good stewardship while developing lifelong Christian friendships.

The mission of the Men's Ministry of Israel Baptist church is to equip the men of Israel for spiritual growth and development.  To minister to the needs of each male member, commit themselves to the spiritual growth and development of our families, our church and our communities. We further seek to assist the Pastor in his vision for the expansion and growth of the church.  

The mission of the Israel Baptist Church Women's Ministry is to assist Christian women to develop their spiritual gifts and claim their call to ministry in God's world.  The mission will be realized through * spiritual development, routed in the Word of God; * intentional service to the external community; and * intentional service within the church community.

God Quality Brothers (GQB)

DIVAS/GQB is a holistic ministry that strives to have an impact on every aspect of a young person's life by encouraging spiritual growth, academic enrichment, physical training and social etiquette based on a cross-cultural curriculum.  This ministry finds its greatest rewards among the young.

The Audio Ministry works in conjunction with the Tape Ministry. The Audio Ministry provides sound engineering for the church. This involves setting up micro phones, monitor speakers, instrument microphones and operations of the sound mixing console, which includes playing music from CD's or cassette tapes. We also provide master recording copies on CD and cassette tape of Sunday worship service and other worship services held in the sanctuary, for the Tape Ministry.  We serve every Sunday for worship service, for worship services held during the week, for funerals, for weddings and other special events, both Church and Let Committee events, that require sound.

The IBC Child Development Center’s mission is to provide a quality child care program to children ages 2 ½ to 14 years of age in a safe, loving, and nurturing Christian environment.

The Couples Ministry endeavors to support the Pastor's vision "to meet the needs of the total person" by providing marriage enrichment workshops.  They are designed for engaged and married couples who are lead to build stronger marriages, to build stronger families, and to build stronger communities.  The workshops are Bible study series that focus on removing selfishness, serving your spouse, healthy communication, and marriage and your finances, just to mention a few. Relationships are strengthened with occasional fellowship outings outside of the workshops.

The facilitators are Minister Oran W. Young and Sister Linda Young.  They can be reached at 301-459-1916.  They can be available for personal premarital and resolution consultations.

The mission of the Culinary Ministry is to serve with a Christian attitude all the ministries of the Israel Baptist Church, our community and friends with courteous, prompt and competent service.  Our Purpose: to provide for the Israel Baptist Church Family, visitors and friends meals that are healthy, nutritious, tasty and attractive; to present a safe and clean environment for preparing and serving food in a loving and Christian atmosphere.  Our Vision: to be the resource of all the food needs for Israel Baptist Church.  Our Scripture: Proverbs 22:9.....He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for He giveth of his bread to the poor.  (Jesus shares what He has with others).

The mission of the  Dance Ministry is to express worship through the talent of dance. The dance ministry meets every Saturday morning and is open to all who wish to join. Members of the ministry share their talents at various services throughout the year.

The Evangelism Ministry has as its objective to assist the Pastor in fulfilling the vision and mission of the Church: "To be a witness for Jesus Christ in this city" and to build bridges to the community. We analyze the spiritual condition of the Church and make recommendations for its spiritual growth.  The ministry has in-house training to equip the congregation to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in their own circles and within the Church's neighboring communities.  We reach out into the community every second Saturday to make contacts and then we begin a relationship building process.

The Finance Ministry ensures the proper and expeditious handling and recording of all Church monetary gifts and ably supplement the Trustee Ministry in its fiduciary responsibilities. 

The Flower Ministry Members check the altar on Sunday morning to make sure the flowers are placed on the altar. with the help of the Deacons we give the flowers to other clubs, organizations or members to be delivered to our sick and shut-ins. if a request is made for the flowers to be a specific color, the flower ministry will contact the florist to request that the altar flowers be that specific color. We order, strip and clean palms for Palm Sunday.

Israel's scouting program is dedicated to helping all girls build character and gain skills for success in the real world. Girls develop strong values, leadership skills, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth that will serve them all their lives.

Israel has the following girl scout programs:

Brownies - grades 1-3 Leader

Juniors - grades 4-6 Leaders

Cadettes - grades 7-9 Leaders

Seniors - grades 10-12 Leader  

Mission Statement The Health Ministry of Israel Baptist Church is dedicated to providing informational opportunities for members of the church family and members of the community at large through seminars, individual counseling and screenings. Greater than a ten year commitment to maintaining a very active immunization program for children of all ages and adults according to guidelines from D.C. Immunization guidelines. (express Clinic for DC Immunization Program). Goals:  * to support the church to provide a holistic ministry to the congregation and community residents. Utilize the services of the congregation's health professionals to enhance the health of the members. Provide health awareness programs, sponsor health education programs. Disseminate health-related information to the congregation and to the church community.

The Israel Baptist Church Library Ministry is currently in formation. Once established, the Library Ministry will provide Christian educational and leisure resources, adult and children book clubs, computer access and other exciting activities. The mission of the music ministry is to perform sacred music for all services of worship and, to accompany the pastor on some of his visits to other churches.  The music ministry consists of more than one grade of choirs, and performs gospel music consisting gospel, hymns, anthems and the preferred music by the pastor  and deacon ministry.

The Nursery Ministry ‘s mission is to provide consistent and nurturing care to children (ages 1-5) so parents can comfortable serve in other worship areas during Sunday morning worship services.

Each person who joins the Israel Baptist church family will be given orientation and training to help them understand what their new walk entails. At the completion of their training they will receive the right hand of fellowship from their church family.

The purpose of the Missionary Ministry is to witness for Jesus Christ while providing Mission services such as visitation of the sick, sending cards of encouragement and provided in-reach and outreach services as needed.

The mission of the Scholarship Ministry is to support our youth and young adults in the pursuit of educational excellence.  Re recognize the academic achievements of all of our student members, offer college scholarship awards for high school seniors, sponsor college tours, and organize scholarship fundraising events.

The mission of the Security Ministry is to provide a safe environment for all Israel activities. Members of the Security Ministry will patrol the parking areas and monitor the entrances of the buildings and patrol the Church building to make sure order is kept at all times.
